Caravan and RV Mats and Groundsheets
Why should you purchase a Caravan or RV Mat or Groundsheet?
- Safety - If you take a tumble down the caravan step, you would much prefer to land on a nice soft caravan or RV matt or groundsheet as opposed to twigs or the abrasive surface of the ground. Furthermore, there might be some broken glass from the night before that might not have been properly cleaned.
- Comfortability - We don't advise that you go camping and walk outside barefoot, but we all know at times it happens. Walking out of your Caravan or RV onto a matt or groundsheet is much more comfortable than having to walk across prickly grass or bindies.
- Cleanliness - Being able to wipe your shoes or feet before entering the caravan or RV will keep the cabin much cleaner.
- Looks Good - We all love a caravan or camping site that looks pleasing to the eye. Sometimes you might not have the best patch of grass at the front of your caravan. This is the perfect scenario to drop a caravan or RV mat or groundsheet to give your site that pop!

What Style of Caravan and RV Mats and Groundsheet made from?
- Mesh Style: These types of mats and groundsheets are manufactured from shade cloth like material. The added beneift of mesh style is the porous pattern which allows the grass underneath to breathe, and surrounding moisture to escape. These features of mesh style mats and groundsheets prevent water from pooling when it rains.
- Solid style: Solid mats and ground sheets are more durable and offer more protection than mesh mats and groundsheets.
Due to the absence of air pockets like their mesh counterpart, solid mats and groundsheets are easier to clean and provide a more defensive design. Their durableility does come at the expense of allowing more water to pool and they also face more restrictions and regulations at caravan and camping grounds as they have a greater impact on the grass underneath.
How to set up your Mat or Groundsheet?
The main purpose of a mat or groundsheet is to create a barrier between the ground and your swag, tent or caravan so you can protect yourself from nasty ground surfaces and prevent water/moisture build up at the floor of your swag or tent. While mats and ground sheets arent always made to fit, ideally you want to have the surface area match the floor dimensions of your swag or tent. If your mat or groundsheet protrudes outside the floor dimensions of the swag or tent, rain water can trickle down the walls of your swag or tent and fall into the middle of your mat groundsheet. This will cause unpleasant dampness in your swag or tent floor.
* Laying your mat or groundsheet out then place your tent or swag on top of the mat or groundsheet.
* Peg out your tent or swag the tent as you normally would, but also penetrate your pegs through the ground sheet pre-cut holes.
* You should reinforce each groundsheet hole with tape or brass eyelets to stop it from fraying or continuing to rip. You can achieve this by using heavy-duty tape, adhesive glue, or stitching strong thread around each hole. It’s also worth noting on your groundsheet where the front/rear is so that your tent and holes align next time.

Types of Caravan or RV Awnings
- Box Awning: Box Awnings are perfect most caravan and RV types including Caravans & Pop Tops. The compact, low profile suits Motorhomes, Campervans, Camper Trailers & Horse Floats. They are simple to set up, with the vinyl and legs all folded within the box awning removing the need to set up & store any additional poles.
- Roll-out Awning: A roll-out awning is one of the most popular types of awnings found on caravans and RVs. Roll-out awnings have two components; the awning sheet material, and the hardware on either side of the sheet material. Setting up the roll-out awning requires you to unclip the hardware to extract the awning material, secure the arms in place, and adjust the awning poles so the tension is perfect and the correct height.
